Colonel Tan’s

It was a brisk evening as we walked down the street. People rushed home from work and cars whizzed past us. We were heading for the Flinders Street Station, where we would catch the train to Colonel Tan’s.

Colonel Tan’s is a cool new place to eat. We had heard there is lots of vegetarian food there! We hopped on the train to Chapel Street where Colonel Tan’s is and Mum talked to Dad while I started out of the window thinking about food. My tummy was rumbling by the time we got to the station. We walked for a while longer, sticking our noses into shops. We came to a halt beneath a slight of stairs. They were really steep, but the sound of cool DJ music encouraged me to go on. I passed a room with a band in it. They seemed to be doing a rehearsal.

This led me onto a huge room – the Colonel Tan’s dining area. The room was packed full of young adults. Some were even relaxing on lounges. We jumped into a line which we thought was the line for getting a seat, but it was really for a t-shirt signing. We laughed at our mistake.

We ordered my favourite beverage – San Pellegrino! We sat down at a really cute table. It had a tablecloth decorated with different types of fruits. I smiled and made for the menu, scrolling down it and finding a scrumptious looking meal called Pad Thai. The meal arrived a short time later steaming hot! I tucked in without any mercy. Then suddenly pling! pling! Hot dried chilli spice slide down my throat! My belly was on fire! Luckily Dad came to the rescue and helped me finish the meal.

Dad took pity on me and ordered another meal. It was a ripping rice salad. It was a lot cooler than the Pad Thai and the avocado gave it a calming sensation. It was a dome shape when I first saw it, but it was so tender that when my fork touched it, it crumbled! There was also a big squelchy egg on top and it’s yolk-i-ness made my heart melt. It mixed in well with the broccoli.

I’m definitely coming back to Colonel Tan’s. I love the food – it was so good!

PS Dad recommends the Tofu Whoppa. It is sensational!
