ANNIJO!

annijo-logo

Monday was the best day ever. Not only was it nice and sunny, but Adam, Nellie, Jazz, Izzy, Noah (who are all in my class) and we got to run our own restaurant! Its name is ANNIJO and it is Mexican.

It all started when Mrs V (our teacher) had this great idea of splitting us into groups and sending us out to create a restaurant – serving lunch to our class 3/4V. But, first we needed to convince her that we could do it. This was our homework, and over many pleads and wishes, Mrs V said – yes!

After we celebrated our triumph it was time to get crackin’! Over the next two weeks it was head down, bottom up. We fished out recipes, planned table settings, employed people and did much more. But that wasn’t all. At home, we needed to prepare food to take to school on the day. Mum and I made 22 rice paper rolls to give to the class!

On the day we busied the class with activities, set up the classroom and heated the food. All went well, and ANNIJO ate the left overs for lunch.

I think ANNIJO did fantastically and Mrs V (I think) does too. I would love to do this project again! Thank you Mrs V!

Walking the You Yangs with Nanna and Pa

It all starts when you are taking a trip to the You Yangs on a pleasant sunny day. You climb the mountain and rest on the big rock, and all goes well until you go off the track. What might you encounter there? What perils will you have to face? Let’s find out!

Select your own adventure below to walk the You Yangs

Try and pull some weeds out?
Go over the log and up the steep hill?
Take a trip on the biggest hill?
Go over and discover a strange noise in the bushes?
Slip in the deep puddle?

_________________________________________

Go over the log and up the steep hill?

You cross over the log and up the steep hill. You suddenly realise you’ve made a mistake! The slope is more slippery than it seems… you grip onto a rock and scrabble for another, but now you’re only holding on with two fingers …. oooops, make that one! You fall and jut your chin on a hard stone. Ouch! Let’s try again!

_________________________________________

Go over and discover a strange noise in the bushes?

You find a track that leads to another stony track with a lot of bushes. You travel on still trying to find Nanna and Pa who you’ve left well behind you. You see a clump of rocks ahead. While you are admiring the view, a rustly noise in the bushes behind you distracts you. You freeze. Frightened birds fly out of the trees … you take a step back. A horrified wallaby travels closer to its mother. You are just about to quit it and run when out hops a little bird from the bushes. You laugh. What a streak of luck!

_________________________________________

Slip in the deep puddle?

You cross to the next track only to find a large puddle blocking your way. You decide to solve this logically. You drag rocks across from the bank to make a bridge. Not perfect, but good enough. You start to cross. Each rock wobbles as you step, but at last you make it to the end. Yes!  You punch the air. But at that moment, part of the bank falls in that you are standing on! Soggy and grumpy you climb out.

_________________________________________

Take a trip on the biggest hill?

All goes well until you find your path blocked by a troupe of excited tourists. You say ‘Execuse me’ and ‘Hello’ five times over. But they don’t seem to listen. You decide to climb a tree to get to the other side. You start to climb. It isn’t easy. There are a lot of bugs and spiders to avoid. You jump to another tree, but it isn’t easy to get down. You fall with a thud! On the ground, yeeow! You groan and continue your journey.

_________________________________________

Try and pull some weeds out?

To try and be helpful, you attempt to pull some weeds out. First you choose a harmless looking small weed the size of your palm. With dainty pointer and thumb you try to pluck it out. Part of your fingernail comes off! You frown and try again. Ouch! You try it this time with BRUTE FORCE! You secure both hands on the weed and pull. Suddenly a fly buzzes up next to your ear. In surprise you let go and fly backwards into a nook. There is a sickening crush from your backside … you rub it gingerly and continue on.

_________________________________________

Well at last you have met up with Nanna and Pa and are safe. You are covered in mud, bruises and grazes, but you do have reasonably dry shoes now. One thing I have learned is never to go off the track or leave your guardians and I’m sure you know why now!

Best meal in town

I love hanging out at Mark and Melita’s place. They live in Ararat and welcome in friends. This is a review of the delicious meals we had when we visited them on the weekend.

First up was a lovely bean soup. Nice and beany, and not too watery. The only problem was that I couldn’t put it down as it was so good! Next was vegetarian lasagne. They made this specially for us knowing we are vegetarian. Melita makes the best!

Now for an old friend … the spud! We had wonderful crispy sweet potato chips. I love hearing them crunch beneath my teeth. Definitely not completely healthy though (tee hee hee!). Then for a simple change, we gobbled pasta with a really think tomato and onion sauce. Really tasty!

Now, I would never say that any bread would beat La Madre’s, but Melita’s homemade bread is the best! Nice and warm and soft and delectable is this bread!

After the delicious mains we had dessert, which Melita’s friend Jo made. These were ice-cream sandwiches. They were basically biscuits with icecream in the middle. I devoured it like I had never eaten before. It made me feel all light and airy!

After that I said my thankyous and looked desperately at the food wishing I could go back in time and have another meal. So, all I want to say is MELITA YOUR FOOD IS TOP OF THE TOPS! 10/10 *****

The Chase – The Grampians Spring Classic run!

I stared up at the great, blue wobbling start and finish line arch we needed to cross to start the race. We were in Ararat and had joined up for a charity race to run 5 kilometres the whole way!

We had already started and sweat was beginning to run down my face. “Stop being such a wuss” I told myself angrily. Mum and I ran along the road panting and our hearts beat to the time of the thumps our sneakers were making on the road.

Suddenly, a sign came into view. It said “ROAD CLOSED, PLEASE TURN BACK”. I sighed. “So, it’s all done” I thought. But we weren’t stopping! It was just a U turn in the race. Mum and I ran back the same way we came, then we turned a corner. This led to a lake. The sun was beating down so hard on us. I wished I could jump into the lake for a swim! But we kept going. By the time we got back in the suburban territory Mum was far ahead of me and I could hear the crowd cheering.

I gritted my teeth and sprinted ahead just as the finish archway came into view. YES!!! I had made it! Well, I thought as I grabbed a bottle of water and a banana. Even though I have achieved my goal, I would like to say thanks to Mum who supported me and give me a bit of oomph in parts I was getting weak and silly.

Come along to the the Grampians Spring Classic next year! There is the 5km walk/run around town and a huge 15.2km run from Moyston into Ararat (which Dad did!).

Little Cupcakes

Of all the sweet shops I’ve ever been to, Little Cupcakes is the best! Cupcakes, cupcakes galore! The shop is a parlour filled with lovely, dreamy cakes.

Cupcakes are creamy and delicious and it seems heaven is concealed beneath the cupcake crumbs. We cannot even walk by Little Cupcakes without getting a treat or two! I must confess now that LITTLE CUPCAKES ROCKS!
